The Green Sower of Life ~ says

Greenhouse

We can reduce carbon dioxide emissions if there is the will to do so. The technology is available and with legislation we can ensure industry adapts these new technologies. We can ensure tighter emission standards for cars.

We can ensure power stations are efficient with regard to pollution. Forests trap carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and lock it up as free carbon in wood for a long time or for as long as the timber is put to a lasting use. Burning releases the carbon dioxide. Planting more forests and preventing the destruction of wood will reduce global warming.

Chemical

A ban can be put on toxic chemicals such as PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and dioxins. We can enforce the prevention of dumping of liquid industrial waste and waste oil at sea by ships. We can reduce our exposure to lead.

We can assist poorer countries to develop without creating more dangerous chemicals. Millions of people in India and China are want air conditioners and refrigerators. We must ensure these do not contain CFCs or other environmentally harmful chemicals.

Genetic engineering

We can place a ban on genetically modified organisms until they have been tested.

Nuclear

World oil supplies are expected to run out by 2030 and gas by 2045. Nuclear power is a possible solution. Nuclear waste remains highly dangerous for thousands of years and accidents could devastate huge areas. If we are to avoid being driven into a nuclear future we must step up research and development for safe and sustainable methods of energy production. We can phase out existing nuclear power stations. We can build better security sites for existing nuclear waste.
